eBay Integration Enhancements

I just signed up for a store as an eBay seller and my ProStores site does not include all of my listings.  What happened?

The new QuickStart setup for eBay sellers will import all of your active fixed price listings (BIN or SIF), up to the product limit of the store tier purchased.  Auctions and auctions with BIN are not imported into your store during the QuickStart setup.  Depending on the number of listings and data included with the listings, it may take several hours to complete the process.  You will see a message on the Product List page indicating the process is still running.

Why do I receive errors when attempting to create eBay listing from ProStores after the upgrade?

The recent upgrade included enhancements to support eBay’s new return policy and acceptable payment methods policies.  Your eBay listings templates may include settings no longer supported on eBay.  Review your eBay listing templates after the upgrade and confirm or update your Return Policy and Payment Options settings in accordance with eBay listing policies.  Once you confirmed your settings are properly configured, save the template and try listing again.

Is ProPay compatible with ProStores?

ProPay is not currently supported as an integrated payment solution in ProStores.

What happens if the listing specifies ProPay or Payment on Pickup as payment options and the buyer completes checkout redirect through ProStores where these options are not enabled?

Buyers are presented with the payment options in the ProStores checkout flow based on the payment settings specified in ProStores, not those specified in the listing.  As a best practice for a good buyer experience, your listing should only reference payment options enabled in ProStores if you are using ProStores checkout redirect.

How is the brief description field populated in ProStores from an eBay listing?

When an eBay listing is used to create a product in ProStores, through QuickStart, eBay Copy Tool or eBay Product Sync, ProStores will use the eBay listing’s subtitle as the brief description.  If no subtitle is present, the first 50 words of your eBay listing description are used as the brief description.  ProStores also removes HTML from the description when copying it into the brief description to preserve storefront design continuity on product list and product detail pages.

Store Design/Shopping Enhancements

Why are the new design enhancements not on the product list, product detail, and/or cart pages in my store after the upgrade?

The ProStores upgrade process does not apply changes to any modified or customized templates.  This is by design to prevent overwriting your customization and possibly creating unexpected results.

New HTML and SSML code must be added to some templates for the new design elements to function on your store.  Two options are available for adding the new code to your templates.

Option 1:  Restore the targeted template(s) (product list, product detail, or cart) to the Original Version or select and publish a new Product List/Product Detail page layout.  This process will add all of the new code to the template.  Unfortunately, it also removes any custom code you may have added to the template and sets a new baseline.

To revert a template to the Original Version, go to Store Design > Page Template Manager > select the target templates (Product List, Product Detail, and/or Cart) > More Actions > select Revert to Original Version > click Revert to Original Version.

To select a new Product list and or Product Detail layout, go to Store Design > Design Settings > Product Detail/Product List Layout > Change > select one of layout options > Save and Publish.

Reverting to original version or selecting a new page layout will remove your custom code from the template and set a new baseline.  You can add your custom code back onto the template after publishing it.

Option 2:  If you do not want to lose all of your custom code or do not want to update your product list or product detail templates with one of the new, enhanced layout options, you can add the new code to your custom templates.  This process requires use of the Source Editor and familiarity with HTML and SSML code.  In most cases, it is easier to add your custom code to a reverted or new layout template.

To obtain the new code and its relative position on the templates for your store, create a new store version with the same theme and layout options currently in use.  Once created, compare the new template source code to the source code of the template in use to identify the new elements and positioning.

As with any other template edits, make certain to set a baseline before performing any edits.

The One-Page Checkout page in my store changed after the upgrade and does not look correct.  How can I fix the page?

If you modified the 'One-Page Checkout - Style Sheet' template before the upgrade on 2/3/09, you may need to revert the template to the original version to apply the updated code to the one-page checkout page.  To revert a 'One-Page Checkout - Style Sheet' template to the Original Version, go to Store Design > Page Template Manager > select 'One-Page Checkout - Style Sheet' > More Actions > select Revert to Original Version > click Revert to Original Version.

You will need to re-apply your custom edits to the 'One-Page Checkout - Style Sheet' template after reverting the template if it does not satisfy your design requirements.

If this does not correct the issue, you may want to review your doctype declaration in your header template.  For optimal performance with the ProStores default code, it should be set as:
 <!doctype html public "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">.

Some of my custom buttons on my Product List, Product Detail, Cart or One-page checkout pages changed after the upgrade.  How do I add them back on to the pages?

In certain conditions, the upgrade process may have modified the use of custom buttons on a few templates – Product List, Product Detail, Cart and One-page checkout.  If your buttons changed on any of these templates after the upgrade and you still want to use your custom buttons, you will need to make a minor change.  Rename the custom button images with the same file names as those referenced in the new templates and upload them into your store again.  See the list of new image file names used in the new templates below.

To upload custom store design images, go to Store Administration > Support > Upload Images. In the 'Store Design Images' section, browse to the image(s), select single image or multi-image file, and then and click Upload.

How do I change the new buttons listed above to my own custom buttons?

To change the buttons listed above to your own custom buttons, you will need to rename your button file to match the name of the name of the button you wish to replace.  If your store is currently displaying the 'Old Images', use the image file names referenced in that column.  If your store is displaying the 'New Images', use the image file names in that column.  Once the file is renamed, you need to upload it into your store.  To upload custom store design images, go to Store Administration > Support > Upload Images > Store Design Images > browse to your custom button image file > Upload.

I do not want to the Brief Description tab listed as the first/default tab on the new product detail page.  How can I change the page to only show the Detail Description and Specifications tabs?

To change the product detail layout to one with only these two tabs, Go to Store Design > Design Settings > Product Detail Layout > Change > select the 'Product detail with two tabs' option > Save and Publish.

I do not want my product detail page to include any tabs.  How do remove the tabs from my product detail page?

To change the product detail layout to one without any tabs, Go to Store Design > Design Settings > Product Detail Layout > Change > select the 'Product image on left' option > Save and Publish.

Pay-Per-Sale Enhancements (PPS beta participants only)

Why is there lag time between the time products updates are processed in store administration and when they appear on the storefront?

All Pay-Per-Sale beta participants were upgraded to the advanced storefront search functionality ProStores announced in July of 2008.   This new search function leverages additional catalog indexing resources.  The advanced indexing process takes a few minutes to complete.  This processing results in a slight delay between the product update and publishing it on the storefront.

Why was my store upgraded to the new advanced search functionality?

ProStores wants to help merchants deliver a shopping experience that leads to conversion.  Quickly presenting the buyer with relevant search results when they land on your storefront from a Pay-Per-Sale ad or conduct a storefront search is important for conversion. The advanced search functionality quickly delivers deep and relevant search results for shoppers.  In addition to increased speed, the advanced search also supports:

  • Unlimited number of results
  • Keyword searches based on product name, keywords, SKU, MPN, ISBN, OEM, category, and subcategory
  • Keyword searches that return all products within a category or subcategory when the category or subcategory name is a match.
  • Use of 'Keyword Stemming'. Examples would include: Searching for 'recharging' will result with products whose keywords include 'recharging', as well as any product with the keyword of 'recharge' or 'rechargeable'
  • Additional Cross sell/Up sell display criteria option – 'Matching product keywords'

I have my store configured to show more than 100 products on the search results page, but now it only 100 are displayed. Why is this?

The advanced search is designed to limit the number of search results to 100 products per page.  There is no limit to the number of search results returned, only how the results are displayed to a shopper.  This is to insure fast page loads for shoppers, retain a shopper friendly navigation experience and keep the site friendly for search engine spiders.  Some search engines may negatively interpret pages that have more than 100 links.  See Google's "Quality Guidelines" for more information.

Make certain to set you Search Options – Max Per Page setting at a value less than 101 for optimal pagination results.

Why should I use the new relevance-based product list template?

This new product list layout option is designed to provide optimal search results for storefront shoppers and improve conversion rates for Pay-Per-Sale traffic.  The product list page serves as the landing page for some Pay-Per-Sale traffic.  Presenting products to the buyer that closely match the ad that brought them to your store is essential to converting the traffic.  The new relevance-based results is supported by advanced search functionality that indexes product name, SKU, MPN, ISBN, OEM, category, subcategory, and merchant defined product search keywords.  It also supports keyword-stemming logic.  Examples would include: Searching for 'recharging' will result with products whose keywords include 'recharging', as well as any product with the keyword of 'recharge' or 'rechargeable'.  This template also prevents product listed in multiple categories from appearing more than once in the search results.

How do I enable relevance-based search results?

Go to Store Design > Design Settings > Product List Layout > Change > select the 'Product list with outline and product images' option > click Save and Publish.  Note that this process will remove any custom code you may have added to your Product List template and set a new baseline.

If you have a custom product list layout template and you don’t want to overwrite it with they new layout you may be able to leverage the relevance-based search functionality by updating your current SSML code <ss:sortby item="XXXXX"/>  to <ss:sortby item="relevance"/>.  You also need to remove any code that groups results by category.

Why is Omniture tracking code appearing in the source view code of my storefront pages?

ProStores is injecting Omniture tracking code into templates of stores participating in the Pay-Per-Sale Marketing beta in order to improve the efficiency of the marketing we do on your behalf as part of the Pay-Per-Sale Marketing feature.

Can I edit or remove the Omniture tracking code?

No, the Omniture tracking code is not accessible for editing or removal.  This tracking code is required for all Pay-Per-Sale Marketing beta participants so that ProStores can efficiently market your ProStores Web store
